The creature can easily escape the fight by swimming down, or turning and ramming the boat (in the latter case, the old sailing ships didn't stand a chance).

After hearing for years about the mysterious intelligence communicated in whale song (e.g. the Star Trek movie), I realized that whatever information the music may contain, the beasts never learned to add the words "swim down if attacked" into their lyrics.Steven Brandthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02657324020868587426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480750207070339465.post-58815466452076374402012-05-16T18:02:59.928-04:002012-05-16T18:02:59.928-04:00Just finished reading a chapter on the classificat...Just finished reading a chapter on the classification of whales. I do remember "Moby Dick" being one powerful story, especially towards the end.

The only thing that book that did start to drive me nuts is it does the same thing as "The Grapes of Wrath": every other chapter breaks away from the main plot to examine a different aspect of the setting. Some of these chapters are good, others are not, but they always throw you out of what's going on in the characters' lives at that moment.Brent Silverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15580224241653094855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6480750207070339465.post-16467180881346418712012-05-15T14:02:17.012-04:002012-05-15T14:02:17.012-04:00Indeed :) It's not a difficult quote to memori...Indeed :) It's not a difficult quote to memorize.A.
